What are your opinions on WotC?
This might be entirely alarmist, but it seems to me that WotC is not doing so well.
It's a bad economy and all recent changes point to cutting as many corners as possible to costs, which is logical of course, but I can't imagine Hasbro is making it easy. Paperbacks, DDI, cancelled lines (the minis are dead, guys. Long live the minis), it's all really scary.
I feel pretty bad about this, actually. As much as I prefer the old school feel of Pathfinder to 4e, I still enjoy playing 4e. I still like seeing D&D in the hands of the company, and although the promises they made with the DDI were naive at best, they did a damn good job with the game so far. A few mistakes here and there... I think making FR more "accessible" was dumb... just fuck up Greyhawk or Eberron, no one cares.
But most importantly, they cancelled minis!!!! Like I could afford them now anyway... dammit! That's the mentality like that that made minis go away!
Then again, they are moving more towards the digital initiative, where minis aren't necessary. Maybe it's not as bad as I think.
Still, this economy really sucks, and the more peripheral your market is, the worse off you are. I mean, I'm at the point where, if I ever get a raise, that would only mean giving myself a gaming budget or a fashion budget. And, yeah, I know, priorities man, but I haven't bought new clothes aside from boxers in a year! All my socks have holes, my shoes are worn, and I finally melted away the angsty adolescent idea that fashion is about mindless conformity of stupid people, realizing that its more about impressing upon stupid people the image of power.
Uh.... anyway, enough drunken rambling. What are your thoughts on this? |

So the minis are dead? That sucks, I was gonna by some in a year once I graduate and have a job : (
U have valid points on WoTC, but I'm way outta touch on whats going on, so I have no idea : (
I hope they keep making DnDs... |

I had totally missed this rambling! Nice ramble, Mike!
Babies are expensive. Or so I'm told.
No idea about WotC. I do share your concern that they don't really know what they're doing at this point, but who knows? At the end of the day, the cool thing about RPGs is that we don't need much in the way of support to keep playing. Of course, if all the RPG companies dry up, finding players will become more and more difficult, but I figure, worst-case, we keep our current group together more or less and keep on playin' till we're all dead and buried!
