More badassery from Sly Flourish. I want to have this guy's babies.

I'm starting to think this guy is me from five years in the future, after I've figured out how to fix the few things about 4e that annoy me. Which might make me having his babies a bit weird. Well, weirder.

Yeah, but with something other than freakin' gems.
RUBY KNIGHT uses his EMERALD LANCE on the OPAL DRAKE, doing 37 ONYX damage!

meh.
so instead of saying pick an item you want, you now say, here's a gem, when you smash it u can pick an item you want?
I quickly read the article, so maybe I missed something?

@Mike: Show me on the doll where the bad gem touched you.
@Nik: The thing I like about it is that it preserves some semblance of immersion. It's the difference between this:
Quote: | Player: "What's in the treasure pile?"
DM: "I don't know...you tell me! One fifth-level magic item! And make sure it makes sense in the context of this specific treasure pile!" |
and this:
Quote: | Player: "What's in the treasure pile?"
DM: "A shining ruby, glimmering with arcane energy. <meta>5th level!</meta>" |
I dunno, I suppose it's not perfect, but it's a good middle ground between "pick whatever you want" and "tell me what you want before-hand so I can put it in the adventure somewhere." Which are both problematic for me.

Just to clarify, in case my flashbacks of gems hiding in the trees or lurching out of swamps and killing half my squad got in the way of it, I do like this concept. |
